what is a PARASITE?
a
PARASITE is a plug-in for circuit benders
a
PARASITE is lo-fi synth module
a
PARASITE is an effect pedal without a case
a
PARASITE is a building block for new creations
you
get the idea?
the PARASITES are intended to be used
as anything from circuit bending plugins ( think VST's
for speak & spells and casio's) to lo-fi mini synth
modules and they will all run off of a wide range of
readily available power supplies, or just a single
9 volt battery if thats what you want.
here is the general break down of what
they are on a hardware level and how they arrive to
you. in a static bag you will find an almost fully
assembled and tested circuit board with all the necessary
parts - the pots, switches, hookup wire, and an attached
9V clip, but the controls like switches and pots are
NOT soldered into place. they come as about a 90% complete
kit because i realized that nearly every application
you end up using these for will be different and if
i go and solder them all with 5 inch wire you will
almost always have to change them so i'm shipping them
with a good amount of hookup wire and everything you
will need to get going (this also makes less work
for me and lower prices for you), also many but not
all, of the PCBs will have an area to directly mount
and solder the pots, this will help to keep things
clean and simple and help with the task of mounting
each device. there will not be any jacks shipped because
once again you will probably just change them. the
boards themselves are professionally manufactured and
are as compact as i can reasonably make them. on each
page you will find the actual measurements to make
sure they will fit where you want them.
i've also built a new forum specifically
to help with any troubleshooting and installation issues
that might come along while building with these. it
will hopefully make life easier on everyone. but email is
always cool too

FALTER |
this
is your basic lo-fi squarewave linear digital
VCO with a few additions. it has a wide
switchable frequency range, voltage controlled
input with a depth control and a switch
for DC offset.

RATE, RANGE, CV input, CV depth and DC

|
SHUDDER |
shudder
is a simple little variable multi-shape
LFO intended for use with CONSTANT, CLATTER,
FALTER, and just about anything else you
might have that will respond to its voltage
range. the focus for it was on its very
slow and smooth sweeping rate which is
mostly below audible range and not found
in any other parasite so far.

RATE, DEPTH, and SHAPE |

|
|
CLATTER |
this
is an opto-isolated switch that is controlled
by a wide range variable speed (crudely)
voltage controllable squarewave clock.
it can be used as a simple on/off, stutter,
vibrato, whatever... device. being optical
it also smoothes out the signal so there
is not any harsh clicking or sharp edges
to deal with at all. there is also a bend
switch that i explain on it's page

|
|
|
PARADE |
my
name sake is a bank of six squarewave oscillators
with variable pitch for each covering three
different ranges. there is also a very
destructive wide range starve control.
this can also be used for logic purposes
yielding controllable pseudo-random results.
::: controls :::
RATE 1, RATE 2, RATE 3, RATE 4, RATE 5,
RATE 6, STARVE and volume |

TREMBLE |
tremble
is another potentiometer replacement
but this one is both squarewave and switchable
to pseudo-random slightly controllable
chaos. it also has a wide range starve
feature

|
CONSTANT |
this
is a fairly crude linear analog VCO intended
for applications that do not require
chromatic pitch tracking. it will respond
to voltage control over a wide range,
has a variable wave shape from tri to
square, and has a switchable pitch range

|
QUIVER |
you
can think of the quiver as a self modulating
potentiometer replacement. the variable
shapes between tri and square are feeding
the LED side of a vactrol and the variable
resistor side is available to you via
two holes on the board. you can attach
the variable resistor to any place you
would normally insert a pot and turn
the quiver on and it will modulate the
resistance.

SHIVER |
the
shiver is a slightly simpler version
of the quiver with a slightly different
range. it is another self modulating
potentiometer replacement, but it has
a variable shape between triangle and
sine.

DRENCH |
a
low pass resonant filter with a variable
resonance and cutoff. the high resonance
will also cause it to self-resonate and
produce a near perfect linear sinewave
output oscillation for which the cutoff
then becomes the pitch control

a
simple little discreet booster with an

more for gain then cleanliness. its only
usable at guitar level

MIMEO |
the
mimeo is a dream come true for me. its
a variable capacitor like no other. it
has an enormous range from 100p to well
over 100uf. all accessible through a
smooth single turn of the pot. intended
for use with pitch circuit bends that
won't respond to standard variable resistors.
