::: DESCRIPTION :::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::
this is a Blast
Fed Disaster stuffed into a joystick. the design
is an elaboration of Forrest
M. Mims III's stepped tone generator, which is
also commonly referred to as the Atari Punk Console
which i have also built into an old atari
joystick. this new version has far more potential
for sound creation, from quantized synth notes to
harsh variable digital static.
the controls are like this.
the front and side knobs on the shaft are the two course
controls for the main pitch and modulation rate which
now have a huge range, the rear knob is the starve
control which together with the pattern thumb button
can get some very interesting things going. the joystick
itself is the fine control for the pitch and mod range
respectively and will travel about 15% of the total
pitch range which covers about 3-4 octaves. the trigger
button will trigger the synth on and off when the main
is off, and the large thumb button is a pattern inducing
bend when you have the other controls setup for that,
the smaller (turbo) thumb control is the main power
button. the two knobs on the front of the base are
bend controls for each osc that will turn the oscillator
from squarewave to static. the back left knob is the
pulse width control for the pitch oscillator. the right
rear knob will let you vary the static sound of the
modulation osc when its setup to do that. the built
in ( former throttle ) wheel is the master volume which
is actually a mild high pass filter. on the left and
right side are two 3.5mm control voltage inputs to
control the rate of each oscillator. sorry they are
3.5mm i didn't have any room for 1/4" in there,
and i ran out of the external 1/4" jacks that
i used for the main out. so it was either this or nothing
at all.
::: SAMPLES
::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::
these samples are just me hitting record
and messing around in an attempt the show you the full
range of options. they are all from one single pass
that i just cut up into segments. no effects or editing
was done to anything at all. people that make samples
with reverb or delay are fucking morons that are trying
to hide or exaggerate their results.
