this is another limited run of shaker boxes but this time in handmade round aluminum cases which i asked the maker to leave raw and unfinished. only 16 were made, 6 raw, 4 black, 2 orange, 2 red and 2 white. the paint i left intentionally unbaked so they could be easily scratched or chipped and i gave the orange ones a black undercoat so they will show black, then metal if scratched.

there is a piezo element used as a contact mic which i’ve attached to the inside wall using industrial epoxy, then i filled the case with a bunch of random shit.... springs, nails, coins, bearings, etc... the guts of each are pretty much the same. there is a passive lowpass filter that does attenuate the output by about 50%. but simply turning up the pre amp you are using will resolve this. the filter will let you cutoff the high end for more of a bassy rumble and because the filter unavoidably removes a section of the high frequency's when in use i've added a bypass toggle switch to completely remove the filter from the audio path. there is also now a large arcade style momentary mute switch and i've sealed all of the inside components in black rubber to keep it protected from wear or breakage. it will also work as a contact mic and when placed in front of an amp it will feedback.

i dont think there is any point in making samples. its a metal box filled with random metal or hard objects. obviously adding some effects after the fact will be more interesting. you can of course also replace the contents with whatever you want to further personalize it.
